Cadavre Exquis Doll Project

These wonderful and crazy dolls are the result of a mail art collaborative project I hosted in 2004-2005. I drew a simple pattern and wrote some very basic instructions. Using these, the participants made and embellished an assigned number of doll parts as well as a head to top off their own doll, and mailed them to me. I mixed the parts up, constructed dolls, and mailed a doll back to each participant. The parts were a bit disproportionate but I think that just added to the overall artsy and slightly haphazard feel to the dolls.
The dolls in the top photo are mine -- the left one is the result of the project, while the right doll is a sample I had made to give the participants an idea of what the finished dolls might be like. The bottom photo is a group shot of the dolls. From left to right: Robyn's doll, Nici's doll, Jacey's doll, Danelle's doll, Kirsten's doll, Chellaigne's doll, and my dolls.
